Let’s draw you a little story.

You’ve arrived at your hostel after hours and hours of traveling. You’re absolutely exhausted. You come to your room, shared by eight other guests. It’s bedtime and you want to sleep but you cannot. Several reasons behind that but that’s super frustrating, isn’t it?

Let’s just accept the fact that trying to sleep in a hostel with eight complete strangers is no joke. Someone might snore like a sports car engine, someone might create a ruckus at 3 am or another person’s alarm would start buzzing way before time and yes, they’re going to hit the snooze button instead of turning it off.

So what do you do? How do you get a comfortable sleep at night in a hostel? Here are a few tips that might help you get or at least help you figure out how you could sleep better in a hostel.

1. Choosing the right hostel -

First things first, the hostel itself!

Sometimes It doesn’t matter how good the hostel reviews are. It doesn’t guarantee you a good night’s sleep. Although reviews could help, there’s more homework you’ve got to do! Look over through pictures of the rooms in the hostels, check out what the guests have to say about the beds. Learn about the street the hostel is located in or are there late-night rooftop bars etc.

Keeping these factors in mind, you could either edge on a decent place to sleep or another exhausting all-nighter.

2. Finding the right bed -

Most hostels enable you to decide on the bed you get to sleep in. Do your best to get in as early as possible to make sure you get your 1st selection of beds. Try and get yourself a bed tucked away within the corner far away from the most door and therefore the bathroom.

In the case of bunk beds, Upper bunks have additional natural privacy, however, bottom bunks provide you with more freedom to urge in and out of your bed comfortably. realize that good bed, settle in, and never let it go.

3. Exhaust Yourself Out -

Get out of the hostel early and discover your surroundings. Exhaust yourself each day, both mentally and physically. Explore bustling markets, try new languages with locals, take 10,000 or 20,000 steps a day, and work out whenever you get the chance. Stagnant and unfulfilling days aren’t a recipe for dozing properly to your hostel. Don’t be like that owl, completely awake, staring wide-eyed on the hostel ceiling at 3:00 a.m.

4. Up for extras?

Ask and you shall receive. Mostly. Any hostel that is worth staying at, will have the additional sleeping gear to make sure the guests are comfortable. Take an extra sheet to hang along your bunk bed if you need more privacy. Ask for an extra blanket if the room gets chilly. Also, Get another pillow if you’re like me and need an extra layer of luxury.

5. Away with the screens!

Now this is no rocket science, is it?:

Using your phones and laptops in the bed will stimulate your thoughts and keep you awake. Make a pact with yourself. Place away your phones and laptops at least an hour earlier before you go to bed. Give your thoughts time to unwind and fade away effects into the land of dreams.

And here we go! These were some of the few tips that should help you sleep better when you check into a hostel. Hope these tips will help you!
