FRRO full form in hotel industry stands for The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is a government agency in India that is responsible for registering and monitoring the stay of foreigners in the country. This agency plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of foreigners visiting India and helps to keep track of their movements. In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about the FRRO, including its formation, how hotels can file FRRO, what E-FRRO online is, the steps to file FRRO, the required documents and data, the timeline for filing, and more.

In this blog post, we will discuss the process of how hotels can file FRRO and the importance of this process.

What is FRRO & why it exists?

The Indian government previously implemented the Foreigner Registration Office for registration and visa extensions, but in-person visits were still required for processing. In pursuit of its "Digital India" initiative, the government has now launched an e-FRRO portal that offers a streamlined, digital-only experience for foreign nationals. The FRRO plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of foreigners visiting India and helps to keep track of their movements. In this blog post, we will discuss why FRRO matters and everything you need to know about it.

One of the main reasons why FRRO matters is because it helps to ensure the safety and security of foreigners visiting India. The agency helps to keep track of the movements of foreigners and makes sure that they are following the rules and regulations of the country. This is important because it helps to prevent any potential security threats and ensures that foreigners are staying within their visas.

FRRO provides a central point of contact for foreigners and helps them navigate the Indian bureaucracy. The agency is responsible for registering foreigners and issuing registration certificates, which are required for various activities such as opening a bank account or obtaining a SIM card. Without the registration certificate, foreigners would have to deal with multiple government agencies, which can be a confusing and time-consuming process.

Another important function of the FRRO is to issue residence permits to foreign nationals who wish to stay in India for an extended period of time. These permits are typically valid for a period of six months to one year, and they allow foreign nationals to live and work in India during that time. To apply for a residence permit, you will need to submit a copy of your passport, visa, and registration certificate, as well as other documents such as proof of employment or business.

In addition to these functions, the FRRO also provides other services to foreign nationals such as the issue of Entry Visas, issue of Exit Visas, issue of Travel Documents, and issue of Visa Extension by charging the respective FRRO visa extension fees.

Lastly, the FRRO is also a valuable resource for foreign nationals who may have questions or concerns about their stay in India. The staff at these offices are trained to provide information and assistance on a wide range of topics, such as Indian customs and culture, local laws and regulations, and travel and tourism. They are also equipped to handle emergency situations and provide support to foreign nationals who may be in distress.

Steps to register Hotel on FRRO online portal?

frro registration

In India, anyone who accommodates a foreign guest for money, even for a short period, must submit C-Forms. This requirement is based on the Foreigners Act 1946 and Registration of Foreigners Rules, 1992 and applies to all types of accommodations, including hotels, guest houses, and lodging houses. The purpose of the C-Forms is to aid authorities in locating and monitoring foreign visitors for security and safety. It is important to note that this includes not just traditional forms of accommodation like hotels, but also homestays, vacation rentals, and even couchsurfing.

The C-Forms are a legal requirement and must be submitted within 24 hours of the guest's arrival (12 hours if guests are arriving from red flagged countries). They require personal information such as the guest's passport details, the duration of their stay, and the address of the accommodation. Additionally, guest registers must be maintained and made available for inspection by authorities at any time.

Failure to comply with these reporting requirements can result in severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment of up to 5 years. How to register a guest on FRRO portal?

E-FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Officer) is an online platform that enables foreigners to access various visa and immigration services in India remotely. No in-person visits to the FRRO/FRO office are required unless specifically requested by FRRO/FRO officers. It is a web-based service that aims to create a single online portal for all visa-related services for foreigners.

The main goal is to provide user-friendly, cashless and paperless services for foreigners. By registering on the platform, foreigners can generate their own user ID and subsequently apply for services such as registration, visa extension, visa conversion and exit permission online. Required documents, such as Registration Permit/Certificate (RP/RC) and Visa Extension Certificate, can be submitted by post or electronically to the registered email address. In most cases, foreigners will not be required to attend the FRRO/FRO office for services, but in special situations, they may be asked to attend an in-person interview at the appointed date and time.

This is how a guest can register on FRRO Portal:

  • To begin using our services, the individual must register on the portal and create login credentials.
  • In order to receive the One Time Password, a valid email ID and mobile number are required. Foreigners must register with their own email ID and mobile number in India to receive OTP and other status updates during the application process.
  • Once login credentials have been created, the individual can proceed to submit an online application by selecting the appropriate service and uploading the necessary documents. It is important to ensure that the application form is filled out accurately and that all relevant documentation and photos are attached in the required format. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
  • The visa officers will only review the application if it is complete and submitted successfully. Any necessary corrections will be communicated via email/SMS.
  • Any fees associated with the service must be paid electronically through the portal's Bank Transfer Gateway. Payment details will be sent via email/SMS.
  • The individual can monitor the status of their application through the portal and seek help from customer support if needed.
  • Upon completion of the application process, the individual will be informed of the outcome and any necessary documents will be sent via email or made available for download on the portal.

One of the main advantages of E-FRRO registration is that it eliminates the need for foreigners to physically visit the FRRO office. The entire process can be completed online, which saves time and effort. The system also allows foreigners to track the status of their applications and receive notifications via email or SMS.

To register with E-FRRO, foreigners are required to create an account on the E-FRRO website. Once the account is created, foreigners can fill out the FRRO Form C login and submit it online. E-FRRO also allows foreigners to apply for and renew their visas online. The visa application process can be completed in a few simple steps, and the status of the application can be tracked online. Foreigners can also file for visa extensions through the E-FRRO system. The visa extension fee varies depending on the type of visa and the length of the extension.
